Joe David's Story

I attended Las Cruces & Mayfield High school. I was a hot rodder thanks to Joe Miller and his help with my obsession with Ford flat head engines. Thanks to Pat Gallagher and Eddy Harrison, I had a 33 Plymouth with suicide doors that I mounted on a chopped Ford chassis. It looked like one of those old monster drag race cartoons. (pictured as Heap of the week in the school paper). Drove a 55 yellow Cadillac, (mostly to Mayfield) and later a 59 Desoto with fins. Still have the Cadillac. I played football until a bout with pneumonia put me to far behind. I was a member of a rock & roll garage band called the Heatwaves, with Daryl Harwood, Steve Hartman, Skip Samford, Bob Buckman, Jerry Short, & Gloria Harwood. That band was a blast. We played mostly at teen centers, White Sands, & parties. I am now married to my wonderful wife Susie, (previously Susie Herring) for many years. I have 3 children of my own ; Pearie, Melissa, and Joseph. I am Papa Joe to my wife Susie's children; David, Corrine, and Itsy. I have Three grandchildren of my own; Veronica, Michael, and Max, and I am also grandfather ie Papa Joe, to Susies grandkids; Maranda, Corinne Kathleen, Billy, Bobby, and Mathew, and a great granpa to; Caiden, Xavier, & Nathan Danger. My Career since high school has been my college education, as I only went to formal college at UTEP, & Western New Mexico, for a couple of years. I worked in the oilfields as a welders helper & roustabout, drove a concrete truck for Certified Concrete, then accepted an opportunity to become an apprentice adobe home builder & apprentice carpenter with my first father in law Felipe Lopez. After Felipe's untimely passing, I operated heavy equipment for Burns Construction where we put in the infrastructure for the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidoso. I then moved to Idaho Falls after the Teton Dam disaster operated heavy equipment, & got to travel all over Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, & explored Yellowstone Park every chance I got. I came back to Cruces and drove fuel tankers for EB Law, Whitfield and Steere tank lines. I found trucking boring so I partnered with my Dad & brother Steve, built a drilling rig & became a commercial water well driller (license (WD671). I then became a union journeyman plasterer where I was part of a team that worked on many high rise buildings where we manufactured precast composite SteelCrete panels, (invented by Tony Ruiz a native Las Crucen) and EIFS panels, and installed them on high rise steel and concrete frameworks in Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. I came back to Las Cruces and worked in partnership with Adobe Artisans as a contractor and built several adobe, and rammed earth homes around Las Cruces and Old Mesilla. The experience with the union led me to a finishing specialty as a plastering contractor. From what I learned as a plasterer & Adobe home builder, helped me in my research and eventual development of new eco ...Expand for more
friendly, disaster resistant composite building systems that use materials that are similar to concrete that have a low carbon footprint. I built a home in Old Mesilla down the street from the old El Patio that is entirely made of recycled waste cellular composites, and made it look like an adobe home. I was the first to build a home in the US made with precast composite cellular concrete panels composed of over 60 percent recycled coal ash in Lymon Colo. near Colorado Springs. As a research project, I designed & built a 56 foot diameter round home near Mountainair NM, with a vaulted compression shell roof, that utilized load bearing thin concrete composite shells bonded over an insulated core for the walls and roof, similar to CSIPS (Concrete Structural Insulated Panel System) that we manufactured on site. I got to travel across the country in Hydrogen powered cars with Dennis Weaver and his friends. Look on youtube about Dennis Weavers Drive to Survive. and type in - 30 minute home pod - in your search engine to see some of my prototype work during that time and me being interviewed by Victoria Peters & Jaime Lee Curtis. I followed Dennis to Joplin Missouri and was part of the launch of his technology incubator near Joplin. I witnessed Dennis orchestrate, demonstrate & teach, that our vehicles and our homes do not need fossil fuels. He taught by demonstrating hands on methods for helping the ecology/economy in addition to teaching with his many inspirational lectures. I was lucky to have several inspirational mentors & teachers during my life's education like Dennis Weaver, that have shown me real solutions that exist now for us to implement toward building a sustainable infrastructure for ourselves and our children. Dennis's favorite quote was from an old Pogo cartoon, that said "I Have Seen the Enemy and They is Us" I am now working as an inventor/ product developer, Eco geek, and have several patents pending, and one patent issued. One of my patents is for a machine that is similar to a big 3D printer that places and casts amended local soils or composites similar to concrete, and builds walls or roofs of a structure. I think I have almost figured out what I want to be when I grow up. I thank God and the men and women who protect our freedoms, that I am still here and still have the potential to help contribute to getting the environment back in balance. The major thing we have to do as a nation is to make the transition from fossil fuels to a Hydrogen based economy, Gasification of Coal & use of domestic natural gas is one step.. A near pollution free Hydrogen based economy combined with national implementation of Sustainable choices in our business and personal lives, will help keep our nation wealthy, autonomous, & much safer for our children, and lord wiling, give them the chance to finish the job. Peace, health, and happiness to all of my old friends and acqaintainces. Joe D. Lacy
